Giacomo Altoè to race an Alfa Romeo this weekend at Imola

Giacomo Altoè will join V Action this weekend for the TCR Italy race at Imola. The Italian teenager will be be behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR, partnering Joakim Darbom in the Romeo Ferraris-built machines.

The Veneto-based driver, fresh from his maiden career podium in the TCR International Series, had tested the Giulietta TCR in August before sampling the car at Adria last week before leaving to Thailand.

“I am happy and thrilled to be able to drive the Giulietta at Imola”, said Altoè to Motorsport.com. “It’s a very powerful car and I was amazed ever since I first tested it last month. I was able to test it again at Adria and the lap times were interesting, although the conditions were not ideal. I believe I can be competitive and have fun, although I’m aware it’s going to be difficult as the level is very high.”

Romeo Ferraris operation manager Michela Cerruti also believes the teenager will be competitive: “We are very happy that Giacomo will join us at Imola. We were hoping to start working with him and when V-Action bought two of our cars the conditions were there to start the collaboration. I’m sure he will be fast and he will have fun, let’s hope to have a good weekend on the Giulietta TCR’s debut in Italy.”

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR will be the fourth different TCR-spec car Altoè has driven in a competitive environment this year, racing the Top Run Subaru WRX STi in TCR Middle East, before starting the International Series season with WestCoast Racing’s Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR. Altoè then switched to M1RA’s Honda Civic TCR for last weekend’s race at Buriram in Thailand.
