Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport becomes 23Red Racing for 2018 Supercars season

Lucars Dumbrell Motorsport will turn into 23Red Racing for the 2018 Supercars championship season following a buy in of businessman Phil Munday, taking a 60% ownership.

“It’s an exciting time, I’m looking forward to getting into the 2018 season,” said Munday.

“It will be a big change from being a major sponsor to team owner next year and I’m looking forward to bringing a fresh, modern team to the grid.”

The team will field one Prodrive-built Ford Falcon next season, changing from two Holden Commodores this season, with a driver that will be announced on Monday. Rumours point at Tim Slade as a potential candidate for the seat.

“I’ve got the best driver I could find,” said Munday to Supercars.com.

“I think for Lucas and I, we’ve had long discussions about rolling this out next year as a new team, and everything that we do about the new team’s got to look at winning.

“I don’t think we’ll win every round, obviously, but I want to be out there and I’d love to get a few podiums next year and be up in the top 10 and I reckon we’ll achieve that quite easily, with the package and driver and new team, crew. It’s exciting stuff.”
