Attila Tassi surprised with third in Monza qualifying

Attila Tassi was third in qualifying at Monza, Italy. The Hungarian admits he was struggling yesterday, and data from team-mate Josh Files allowed him to overcome his issues to claim an unexpected result in qualifying.

“I think this was the maximum, I didn’t expect to be third to be honest,” admitted the KCMG driver to TouringCarTimes. “After yesterday’s free practice I was struggling with the balance of the car, as well as with my driving. Thanks to Josh (Files) I could analyse his data and his on-board footage, and I tried to learn from him. I luckily put a lap together, I think it’s the result of what I’ve learnt and it’s a positive outcome.”

As for his chances to win in the first race, Tassi believes his Honda Civic doesn’t stand a chance against pole sitter Jean-Karl Vernay due to the Audi RS 3 LMS’s superior top speed, but championship leader Mikel Azcona could be within reach with a good start.

“Audi is surely unreachable, we don’t stand a chance against (Jean-Karl) Vernay. As for Azcona, perhaps with a good start we can put him behind us, but we’ll have to see during the race.”
