Cupra unveil new TCR model with online pre-booking system

Cupra has exclusively unveiled the specifications, and a first teaser image, of the new 2020 Cupra TCR to TouringCarTimes.

The race car is based on the new Cupra Leon and will be made available to customer teams for the 2020 season.

“This touring car will be based on the new Cupra Leon, which is also coming up next year, demonstrating the brand’s connection between the streets and the track,” said Jaime Puig, director and head of Cupra Racing to TouringCarTimes.

The new car features improved aerodynamics and weight distribution, revised suspension and an uprated powertrain.

“The new touring car brings together new Cupra bodywork helping the race car carve through the air due to its improved aerodynamic efficiency,” said Puig.

“It also benefits from a full kinematic geometric setup in both axles that use lightweight components to improve weight distribution, while the shifting unit has been improved making it more robust – a necessity on race days.

“The vehicle’s heart, a 2.0 litre turbocharged unit, has seen its performance increased, making it even more competitive, while the car integrates a 100% Cupra racing electronic architecture that is lighter, more robust, modular and customisable.”

The Spanish manufacturer has also unveiled an online pre-booking system for the race car through prebooking.cupraofficial.com, with deliveries taking place at the new Cupra headquarter in Spain.

“After receiving a big number of requests by our regular customers, we have decided to launch the first-ever touring car pre-booking platform,” said Puig.

Cupra started testing of the new car in October and first deliveries to customers will take place early 2020.
