AmD Tuning confirm Honda switch

AmD Tuning will campaign an eighth-generation Honda Civic for James Kaye in the remaining five races of the 2013 British Touring Car Championship, after buying the Super 2000 specification car from Team Dynamics.

The car was raced by Tony Gilham Racing last year before being handed back to Team Dynamics. Kaye will switch from the Volkswagen Golf Mk.V which has been used by AmD Tuning since 2010, after it was rebuilt for the BTCC after being bought from a team in the Baltic Touring Car Championship.

“Our aim going into the BTCC this season was to win the Jack Sears Trophy with the Golf, and we were pleased with the good start we had,” said Team Principal Shaun Hollamby to btcc.net. “The car has been as quick if not quicker than our main rivals, but the big crash at Donington set us back a long way. The opportunity to switch to the Civic arose as a result of James’ relationship with Honda and it was too good to miss.

“I’d like to say a massive thank-you to Team Dynamics and to Honda for allowing us to use what is undoubtedly one of the best engine-chassis combinations ever seen in the championship. The guys have been fantastic – they were incredibly helpful when we were testing at Snetterton yesterday and have worked flat out to get the car ready for us. It was important from our point of view that there was a dialogue with the Dynamics engineers, and they were very enthusiastic about getting the car out there again.”

The team hopes to continue to run with the Golf as a second car for the remaining rounds should a driver be found. The team were targeting being a two-car operation from the start of the season, first evaluating running one of Motorbase Performance’s Ford Focus STs as a second car, and originally planned to build their own Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) specification Vauxhall Astra for the final half of the year, but those plans are now on hold until 2014.
