Jason Plato sets blistering pace in second Snetterton practice

Triple Eight’s Jason Plato set a blistering pace in second free practice at Snetterton, shaving half a second off the qualifying lap record from last year and beating nearest challenger Colin Turkington by 1.1 seconds.

Plato topped the session throughout after a sequence of fastest laps in the early minutes, before dipping under the lap record around 15 minutes in with a time of 1.56.197.

None of Plato’s challengers got within a second of the MG6 GT, with West Surrey Racing’s Turkington coming closest with a time set in the final five minutes of the session.

The BMW was 1.176s off the pace, while Ciceley Racing’s Adam Morgan was third in his Mercedes A-Class, with a time set just as the chequered flag flew.

Motorbase Performance’s Mat Jackson was fourth, having run in second for most of the session, while Jack Goff kept up his promising form in his new Volkswagen CC in fifth.

Rob Collard, Sam Tordoff, Tom Ingram, Matt Neal and Alain Menu completed the top 10. United Autosports’ Glynn Geddie was a much improved 11th after his morning woes, just ahead of Gordon Shedden in his Honda Civic Tourer.

Eurotech Racing’s Andrew Jordan missed the session, after being taken to hospital for precautionary checks following his accident in first practice. He will assessed again before qualifying to decide whether he is fit to drive.
