Marcos Ambrose set for 2015 V8 Supercars return with DJR/Penske

2003-2014 champion Marcos Ambrose has announced he will return to racing in the V8 Supercars Championship next season, and it seems set that the 38-year-old will join a merged operation between series stalwarts Dick Johnson Racing and Penske next season.

Ambrose, who won two championships with the Stone Brothers Racing team when they ran Ford Falcons, and has competed with Ford in the last four years in the top level NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, looks set to follow the blue oval back to Australia, with Penske understood to have worked out a deal to lease one of Dick Johnson Racing’s Racing Entitlement Contracts (RECs) for the 2015 season.

“We’ve been negotiating with Penske now for over 12 months, so we’ve just got to wait and see wha the wash up is,” said DJR team principal Dick Johnson to 7 Sport.

“If it all comes off, I’ll be the happiest man in the world…the guy obviously did well in the early part of his career in 03-04, and went to the US and made his mark there in one of the toughest categories in the world, which is NASCAR, so it’ll be great to see him back here.”

Penske will make an official statement about their V8 Supercars plans on Monday 15th September.
