Broc Feeney ends Triple Eight podium drought with victory in Race 2

Broc Feeney brought an end to Triple Eight’s worst podium drought since 2006 by winning the second Supercars Championship race of the weekend at Wanneroo Raceway.

The Ford Mustang driver started second and got a better start initially than pole sitter Matt Payne.

But wheelspin in second gear meant that Payne could pull back ahead again heading into Turn 1.

Best start of all was made by Thomas Randle from fourth place on the grid, but he went too hot into Turn 2 when trying to defend from Kai Allen and dropped down to sixth place instead.

While Payne started building a lead, Feeney pitted first of the two leaders and when Payne emerged back after his stop, he was ahead but in the middle of backmarkers and with Feeney right on his tail.

And the Grove Racing driver then hit the back of Aaron Cameron as the Blanchard Racing Team driver was heading for the pit, handing Feeney an opportunity to grab the lead.

Feeney grabbed it by both hands heading into Turn 1 on lap 28 and managed to stay ahead until the end of the race.

The Triple Eight driver won the race by 1.6 seconds over Payne while Allen made it two Grove Racing drivers on the podium in third.

Chaz Mostert was best of the Toyota drivers in fourth place ahead of Will Brown who climbed from 12th place to finish fifth.

Brodie Kostecki finished sixth ahead of Toyota rivals Andre Heimgartner and Ryan Wood.

The third race of the weekend starts at 15:20 local time/09:20 CEST on Sunday.
