Stefano Comini says injury is not a problem

Championship leader Stefano Comini finished Friday’s testing session at Buriram, Thailand, in a disappointing eighth position.

The Swiss, who is also carrying maximum ballast this weekend, says it has nothing to do with his knee injury: “It has nothing to do with this,” said the Target Competition driver to TouringCarTimes as he hit his orthopedic brace with his cane. “It’s all about the car, we need to work on it because it doesn’t feel alright at all.”

Speaking of his car’s behaviour, the Swiss said: “I have a lot of understeer ever since we started testing, but the main problem is that overall the car feels ‘lazy’. There is a certain lag from my input on the throttle to the car actually accelerating, it feels like she is tired. We certainly need to look into it.”

Talking about his injury, Comini says it is not a problem when he is in the car: “I struggled a little bit this morning, as I am still braking with my left foot and it felt like I couldn’t deliver the sheer power needed to stop the car. However, as the session progressed, the adrenaline came along and I was able to drive as I normally would. I have to admit that when I get off the car it hurts a lot, though.”

The driver is not worried about the situation: “It’s nothing new, we tend to always struggle in Free Practice or testing and then come back stronger. We know we have to work a lot, and I want to make sure I am competitive for qualifying as I have a title to fight for.”

Comini finished eighth, a full 1.2 seconds behind session leader Jordi Gené.
