STCC merges TCR and Clio Cup in main class for 2017

The Scandinavian Touring Car Championship organisation has announced it plans to merge the new main TCR class and the support class Renault Clio Cup, also known as the Junior Touring Car Championship (JTCC), for the 2017 season.

“The type of car is perfect for everyone with ambition to eventually take the step to STCC. That is why we have from the first season decided to join JTCC with STCC TCR Scandinavia on the tracks where we find it reasonable with the size of the grid in mind,” said Jonas Lundin, MD of STCC AB.

There are three entries confirmed for the TCR class so far, all SEATs which will be run by SEAT Dealer Team PWR Racing, while the Clio Cup had 16 cars this season, of which seven contested the full-season.

“We have of course tried the idea on the drivers that we now know will race in the JTCC and have only met positive reactions,” said Lundin.

The 2017 STCC calendar has not yet been revealed but is expected within the coming weeks.
