Dean Canto splits from GRM

Dean Canto has parted company with Garry Rodgers Motorsport (GRM) as he was to enter the third and final year of his contract.

Garry Rogers has decided the relationship will not see out its distance and informed Canto that his services will not be required for the coming season by the team.

A statement on his personal website, Canto has confirmed these developments by saying, “I am disappointed that I will no longer be able to work with the crew at GRM. I would like to thank Pier, Rhino, San Fran & Shirl for all their help and support over the past two years at GRM.”

Canto could be left without a full drive due to the lateness of the decision, nearly all seats in the field have been filled, meaning Canto’s only option for 2008 appears to be to secure a top endurance drive at Phillip Island and Bathurst. Two teams are reported to have contacted Canto about joining them for the endurance races. “As the decision has been made so close to the start of the new series I have no choice but to only participate in this year’s endurance rounds.” Canto said.

The two-times Development Series Champion finished 16th in the 2007 championship, right behind his highly rated young teammate Lee Holdsworth who finished 15th in the championship standings.

We are yet to hear of Canto’s replacement and team mate to Holdsworth at GRM for 2008.
