Reduced sentence for jump-starts
The V8SA have reduced the penalty for jumping the start of a V8 Supercar race in 2008. Jumping the start will no longer incur a drive-through penalty, which has proved so decisive in previous races, instead a 10 second penalty will be added to the drivers race via various options.
One way to take the penalty is by way of an additional 10 seconds stationary while taking their compulsory pit stop.
Also proposed by the organisers is a change to the ‘knockout’ qualifying session.
In 2007, the three ‘knockout’ timed qualifying sessions were of equal length of 15 minutes. The change for 2008 is expected to mirror the F1 procedure, 20 minutes, 15 minutes and then 10 minutes respectively.
The final top 10 session lasting just 10 minutes will be a rapid-fire shootout!
