Positive start for Irwin Racing
IRWIN Racing’s Marcus Marshall has enjoyed a solid weekend at the Clipsal 500, the opening round of the 2008 V8 Supercar Championship Series on streets of Adelaide.
Marshall finished race #1 in 19th position, before improving to 13th in race #2 to be placed 16th overall for the weekend.
Fellow Ford racer Jamie Whincup won both legs of the Clipsal 500.
The result was the best for the IRWIN Racing since its inception last year.
“My goal for the weekend was to finish both races, so to finish where we did is really pleasing, said Marshall.
“The best thing is that compared to last year, the team has stepped-up and I’m pleased for everyone involved.
“It was a pretty tough weekend with the car. We do have a lot of work to do, but we learnt a lot about the car, plus got some points!
“We need to add some things, but we know the direction we need to head. I’m sure we can continue to improve. That’s the key.
“I’m happy with the hard work I have put in during the off-season. I felt strong at the end and that also helps when all the action is happening around you.
“I’m looking forward to the sprint races as I’m sure my fitness will be a key factor.
IRWIN Racing Engineer Greg Foletta, was upbeat after a busy off-season, including the arrival of an ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcon less than a month ago.
“This car has only been with us for three weeks, so to have a performance like this is very satisfying,” said Foletta.
“We have chipped away with the car this weekend and there’s still a lot to do, but it does give you a lift to finish both races like we have.
“Our team work and strategy calls were very good. We finished on the lead lap and even made up a position at the end.
“Straight cars are good, but the result means even more. A dent here and there is OK.
“We have the opening three events in just one month. Having a straight car to take back to the workshop means we can properly prepare for Eastern Creek.”
