Podium for WOW Racing

Cameron McConville has produced a stunning drive for the new WOW Racing to come through from the rear of grid to claim a podium finish in today’s Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.
McConville finished third behind round winner Jamie Whincup and fellow Holden racer Lee Holdsworth in a thrilling race through the Adelaide’s Parklands Circuit.“

My aim today was to finish in the top 15 from last on the grid, so this is just amazing,” an emotional McConville said.

“This result is blood fantastic for our small team; it’s made the move to Holden from Ford over the summer break and undergone dramatic changes. WOW Sight & Sound came onboard just last week with the team’s long time loyal sponsor, BOC, and to deliver them a podium at the toughest race of the year is terrific.

“I’m rapt for them all, and especially Kim and Brad Jones who’ve put their heart and soul into the team and made some big calls. Hopefully this is just the beginning for them.”

Teammate Andrew Jones finished 12th in his Team BOC Commodore after displaying a strong turn of speed in the early stages of the 78-lap event before making contact with another competitor while dicing for position.

A flat left rear tyre forced Jones to pit for a replacement, dropping him from top 10 contention. With the aid of a series of Safety Car periods he was able to surge through to finish 12th.

“Firstly congratulations to ‘McConky’ and the whole team, they have done a fantastic job debuting our new Commodores,” Jones said.

“Prior to the race, Matt Crawford from Walkinshaw Performance mentioned that HRT had won from the race from the rear of the grid three times before and Cameron nearly achieved that today.

“I told the guys over the radio that all we I had do was fix the bloke behind the steering wheel and stop me from hitting people. I’m rapt to be in a Holden, we’ve shown some speed and have a great future, so roll on the next three rounds.”
