Davidson second best at the Creek
Jim Beam Racing’s Will Davison registered the best result of his V8 Supercar career this afternoon at Eastern Creek Raceway, driving home to second place in the opening race of round two at the Sydney circuit.
Starting from sixth on the grid, Davison rocketed to second position approaching the first corner, a position he held onto for the remainder of the 31 lap opener.
Davison held out several challenges from good friend and house mate Jamie Whincup, a swift compulsory pit stop allowed him to keep second position and an impressive start to the weekend at Eastern Creek” valign=”top”>
A thrilled Davison said after the race: “I’m thrilled and relieved to finish in second, to drive the entire race under that pressure was nerve racking and the Jim Beam Racing crew deserved a result.
“It was great fun out there racing against Jamie, we swapped a bit of paint and jostled for position but to start on the front row tomorrow is just a fantastic result for everyone.
“The team has worked hard and getting results like this over night doesn’t just happen, we have worked towards this for a long time.”
Team mate Steve Johnson started from 16th on the grid and wasn’t afforded the same fortune as his Jim Beam Racing team mate at the opening corner.
Contact from Mark Winterbottom saw him leave the track at the first corner resulting in wheel damage and forcing him to the rear of the field.
Jim Beam Racing Sporting Director Adrian Burgess said: “It was very disappointing to have the contact occur and lose one of our cars at such an early stage of the race.”
