DJR top Ford at Melbourne

Jim Beam Racing’s Will Davison and Steve Johnson both finished in the top ten of the Sprint Gas Manufacturers Challenge at the AGP this weekend, the duo proving to be the best Ford combination in the non championship round pitting Ford against Holden.
Davison scored a trio of second places, securing second on the podium at the conclusion of the round after race three.

While team mate Steve Johnson impressively worked his way through the field during the final race, starting from 15th on the grid, Johnson finished 9th in race three and seventh overall for the round.

Davison found himself on the podium for the second week running after a maiden round victory at Eastern Creek last week, and while this round doesn’t count towards his Championship points tally, the season ahead looks more than promising for Davison and Jim Beam Racing.

Ford was its own worst enemy this weekend, several race incidents involving drivers from the camp resulting in damage and lost points, effectively ending any chance of a Ford victory in the Manufacturers Challenge.

Jim Beam Racing flew the Ford flag with both cars inside the top ten at the end of the weekend, the only Ford team to do so.

Will Davison had this to say at the end of the weekend: “It feels unbelievable to be on the podium again, it’s a fantastic result and I’m just thrilled for the team, even though there were no points involved this weekend it gives us great confidence going to New Zealand.”

“We made some set up changes for that last race and the car was quite quick so I was pleased with that given our brakes and tyres weren’t great in that final race.

Steve Johnson reflected on his weekend: “That was a good result in the final race, and to have both cars in the top ten gives us an indication we’re are on the right path this year.

“We were the only Ford team with both cars in the top ten, so we definitely did our bit as far as the Manufacturers Challenge goes.”
