Positive performance from Marshall
IRWIN Racing’s Marcus Marshall has completed the Grand Prix support event in a positive fashion.
Marshall was pleased with his performances and is looking forward to the next championship round at Hamilton in New Zealand.
Marshall took 26th in race #1, 22nd in race #2 and 22nd in the final race of the weekend.
The opening race of the weekend was by far the toughest for Marshall when he was spun and crashed into in just 14 laps of racing!
Major changes for the second race improved the Falcon, and for the final race he climbed to 22nd.
The most important factor for the team was that they completed all three races.
Marshall believes the race package is getting closer to its potential.
“On Friday I felt like we had more hits than Kiss!” said Marshall.
“From that point we really put our head down and improved the car.
“This being a non-championship event has allowed us to make a number of changes. All up these improvements have us heading in the right direction.
“We do need to get on top of things for qualifying, but now that we are heading in the right direction with our race package; I’m sure qualifying is not too far away.”
IRWIN Racing lead engineer Greg Foletta said the opportunity to evaluate the car in full race conditions had proved invaluable.
“Very happy with the car by the end of the weekend,” said Foletta.
“We had a plan this weekend to make some major changes and that has us confident heading forward.
“The start of the weekend was not great. Qualifying was not tough and the damage in the opening race was not what we wanted. However, we put that behind us and got on with the job.”
