Wins for Lowndes and Whincup at Sandown
Team Vodafone duo Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup dominated the two races on the final day of the Midas 400 event at Sandown International Raceway.
Lowndes slid his way acroos the line to take race two of the weekend, While team mate Jamie Whincup took the spoils in the final race of the weekend.
Even though the two fastest cars in the first race of the day were the Holdens of Todd Kelly and Garth Tander, Ford took the top six places in the damp conditions.
Youngster Shane Van Gisbergen put in a devastating performance by finishing second between the Vodafone Ford’s of Lowndes and Whincup. While the remaining Ford lock-out would consist of James Courtney, Steven Johnson and Mark Winterbottom.
The best Holden would surprisingly be Russell Ingall who is finally getting to grips with his return to the General Motors manufacturer.
Todd Kelly, Garth Tander and Cameron McConville made up the top ten.
The final race of the Queens Birthday Holiday weekend would be Jamie Whincup. In better conditions Whincup lead a four-car Ford finish again ahead of the Holdens, who proved again they were the quickest over a single lap with Rick Kelly in his HSV Dealer Team Holden Commodore VE around Sandown in 1:11.1962. Not the quickest of the weekend but certainly quickest on the day.
Mark Winterbottom took second followed by the Jeld-Wen Motorsport Falcon of James Courtney and young Shane Van Gisbergen continuing to impress in fourth.
Todd Kelly and Russell Ingall were fifth and sixth in their Commodores followed very, very closely by Will Davison.
Another Holden of Lee Holdsworth was eighth where ninth and tenth places were the Ford’s of Steven Richards and Steven Johnson.
