Ingall confident of a result at Bahrain
When Russell Ingall joined the Supercheap Auto Racing outfit at the start of 2008 he did so with three goals – to finish a round on the podium; to return to serious top five contention; and to win a round of the V8 Supercar Championship.
As the 2005 Series Champion heads to round 12 of the V8 Supercar Championship Series in Bahrain this weekend, he has already achieved two of those three goals.
Finishing on the podium at Queensland Raceway in July and consistently racing inside the top five over the second half of the season. With these boxes now ticked, Ingall’s focus will move to his third and final goal.
Ingall firmly believes that the significant steps forward made by the Supercheap Auto Racing team, combined with the fact that both he and team-mate Paul Morris qualified inside the top ten in Bahrain last year, sees a round win potentially just around the corner – maybe even this weekend.
With three rounds remaining in the 2008 championship, Jamie Whincup leads the way on 2616 points ahead of Mark Winterbottom. Ingall is on track to record his 11th finish inside the top ten in his 12-year career – currently placed in tenth spot and a mere three points behind ninth placed Steve Johnson.
“Even though our Championship is very much Australian it is always good to experience a different culture on the other side of the world,” said Ingall.
“While this round may be very different to any others in the championship, it is good to be able to race at such a high-class facility and no matter where I’m racing I’m out there to chase the victory.
“At the start of the year I set myself three goals, and have already achieved two of these, it is only the round win that is still there to be achieved.
“All year we’ve continually made inroads towards the front of the field and I seriously believe that if we can get on top of things early in the weekend we will be able to fight for the win in Bahrain.”
