Sprint Gas Racing miss out
Two good race results and a top 10 round position went begging due to pit stop problems in both races for Sprint Gas Racing’s Greg Murphy.
In the day’s first race Murphy, beginning in 10th place, made a good start climbing to eighth on the first lap, but a stalled car during the pit stop impacted his finishing position.
In the second race, this time starting from 19th, Murphy improved to 12th, which at that stage had him placed inside the top 10 for the round, but the car stalled again during the pit stop losing him a lot of time.
Had both pit stops gone to plan, Murphy would surely have collected enough championship points to finish the round in the top 10.
It’s been a tough day for Murphy and the Sprint Gas Racing team.
“It’s been a hard day and a tough weekend,” Murphy said.
“We didn’t have the speed or the grip required to give it a red hot go.
“We were fortunate that we were able to improve the cars throughout the weekend which helped me overtake in both races today. We actually passed a lot of cars out there, which was somewhat satisfying.
“The engine problem that caused me to stall during both of my pit stops cost us dearly. The engine wouldn’t run as I drove out of the pit bay. It cut out both times losing me a massive amount of time in both races.
“Had the car not stalled we could have placed in the top ten in both races today and put ourselves in the top ten for the round. Given our struggles earlier in the weekend that would have been a good result.
“We had our opportunities but in the end a mechanical issue held us back, it was pretty disappointing overall.”
Murphy started the day’s first race in 10th place and finished 19th. The final race of the weekend saw Murphy begin 19th and cross the finish line in 18th position.
Jason Richards did not start today’s racing following the damage sustained to his car in the opening laps of Friday’s race.
Sprint Gas Racing now turns its attention to the Falken Tasmania Challenge, at Symmons Plains Raceway, November 21-23.
