Courtney moves on
In a recent statement, Stone Brothers Racing have confirmed the rumours that James Courtney is to move on at the end of the 2008 season.
According to ENews, Courtney will be moving in a late deal, to Dick Johnson Racing for the 2009 season, although no official confirmation of this has been forthcoming.
The statement said: Stone Brothers Racing and James Courtney will part ways at the end of 2008 when the 28-year-old’s three-year contract expires with the three-time championship team.
James competed in his last race for JELD-WEN Motorsport and Stone Brothers Racing at yesterday’s final round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Oran Park, the JELD-WEN Motorsport team’s fifth place for the round securing sixth in the drivers’ championship for Courtney.
James signed with Stone Brothers Racing in late 2005, stepping in to fill the void left by two-time V8 Supercar Champion Marcos Ambrose when he left Australia to pursue a career in NASCAR.
Debuting in the JELD-WEN Motorsport Falcon at the Adelaide Clipsal 500 in 2006, James together with the JELD-WEN Motorsport crew achieved one V8 Supercar race win, two pole positions and nine podium finishes including three straight podiums at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, first with Glen Seton and the last two with David Besnard.
James will fulfill his final commitments to the team and its sponsors in the coming weeks, concluding with SBR’s final corporate ride day at Queensland Raceway on 17 December 2008.
Both SBR and James Courtney will not be making any announcement regarding their future plans until the New Year.
