Bathurst Hour 6 Update: Ritter leads

In a quieter but more bizarre section of the race, a few more safety cars have helped to jumble up the order giving Greg Ritter & David Besnard the lead for GRM.

Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup seemed to be on target to take over, but a clutch problem has lost them places, as in the dry, Skaife or Tander look set to triumph.

After a safety car to recover Sam Walter’s car – Shane van Gisbergen found himself in the lead, and stretched out a lead over Will Davison in the HRT Holden Commodore.

Unfortunately, after a lengthy pit stop, where Alex Davison when getting in the car flooded the engine, took over a minute to get out and found it had lost position.

Then the Wilson Security Racing car of Fabian Coulthard pulled over and created the sixth safety car of the race, after which Lowndes emerged in the lead from Greg Ritter, who had benefitted in the previous segment from being along with Skaife one of the early runners to switch to slicks.

Ritter was leading at this point, but Skaife and Tander were looking to threaten during the final round of stops, but on the 6 hour mark, Dean Canto crashed the other Ford Performance Racing Falcon to put the last mark on their terrible weekend – the resulting change puts Tander back in the lead from Rick Kelly and Lee Holdsworth – with Ritter and Skaife losing out as a result.
