Courtney wins second race in Sydney

Jim Beam Racing’s James Courtney has taken victory in the final race of the 2009 V8 Supercar Championship season, as the second race around the site of the 2000 summer Olympic games again provided some great action.

He started from second on the grid and muscled past pole-sitter Lee Holdsworth on the first lap.

Courtney enjoyed a strong race, which often tested his resilience. He lost the lead on a number of occasions, but fought back each time to claim his sole victory of the season.

Holdsworth’s race ended when he went off the track and into the wall, but his team mate Michael Caruso finished a fine second overall.

The final step of the podium was taken by Mark Winterbottom, who enjoyed a fine weekend at the Sydney 500.

The 2009 champion, Jamie Whincup, finished the race a lowly 14th, as Toll Holden Racing Team’s Will Davison took 8th, and ultimately claimed the Team’s Championship title for HRT.

Their respective team mates, Craig Lowndes and Garth Tander, had little say in the race, as both failed to finish.
