Tander wins at Adelaide
Garth Tander has won race 5 at the Clipsal 500 at the Adelaide street circuit.
Championship leader Jamie Whincup’s winning streak turned into a fourth place finish, despite starting from pole position.
Whincup and Tander started on the front row, after Whincup claimed pole in the qualifying shoot-out, but Tander took the lead at the start and led lap one.
Whincup passed Tander for the lead on lap 13, but late in the race started to fall back. Whincup would later blame this on the team ‘forgetting’ to change tyres on their final pitstop.
As a result, Tander took his first win of 2010 from Jim Beam Racing’s James Courtney – and Fujitsu Racing’s Lee Holdsworth in third.
Mark Winterbottom holds on to second in the standings despite only finishing 21st, three laps down after contact early on in the race.
Will Davison and Craig Lowndes were also involved in late race collision, resulting in Davison finishing in ninth place, and Lowndes back in 19th.
Despite the win, Tander’s troubled runs at Bahrain & Abu Dhabi, means the HRT driver is now only 15th in the championship, whilst Whincup stretches his lead over Ford’s Mark Winterbottom.
