Tander wins race two at Melbourne GP

HRT’s Garth Tander has won the second race and currently leads the round at the Melbourne Grand Prix, with one race to go.

Tander charged into the lead from the start and managed his tyres more effectively on a drying circuit after a brief rainshower.

Team Vodafone’s Jamie Whincup worked his way up to second place, as yesterday’s winner James Courtney had to settle for third, fighting hard with Stone Brothers Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen.

“It was a tough race just because with the rain coming and going you didn’t really know how hard to brake at any of the braking zones, it was sort of different each lap so when you are the lead car the guys behind can sort of judge your car behaviour on where they’re going to brake.” said Tander.

The points for the non-championship event, with one race to go stand at:

Garth Tander – 192
James Courtney – 186
Jamie Whincup – 166
Shane van Gisbergen – 166
