Tander wins Melbourne race & GP challenge
Garth Tander has won the V8 Challenge event at the Melbourne Grand Prix, by winning the third race.
Chief rivals Jamie Whincup & James Courtney retired, with Whincup losing a cylinder and Courtney suffering an oil leak.
As a result, Shane van Gisbergen’s second place pulled him up to second overall in the round, and Craig Lowndes consistent run puts him in third place.
Two wins however, means Tander takes the round.
“I think it was a shame that Jamie went out first and then James because it probably deprived everyone here of a pretty good race,” he said.
“Jamie certainly had speed in the opening lap and it would have been interesting to see how that progressed over 13 laps but you’ve only got to beat the guys and finish the race and we beat all of those, so we’re really happy with our performance this weekend.”
