Video – Volvo joins BTCS with the new S60

Volvo Cars Belgium are going to enter the Belgian Touring Car Series this year with the all new Volvo S60. Drivers are Vincent Radermecker and Eric Van De Poele.
“We are very happy. Our new S60 sports sedan is our most sporty car ever and there is no better way to show that but to compete,” said Bart Crols, MD for Volvo Cars Belgium.

The series premieres on the 9-11th of April at Zolder and the team has worked hard on getting ready for the first race.

“It has been a hectic period for us but we have received help from the motorsport department of Volvo Cars,” said Thomas Neri, team boss for Volvo S60 Racing Team.

The team is aiming high for their first season with the all-new S60.

“Our primary target is to get up to speed with the car and to fight for race victories. Next year we hope to change to our own engine,” said Neri.

The Volvo S60 is going to run in the Silhouettes S1 class. The cars have a mid-mounted, 3.5 liter, V6-engine which produces 410 bhp. A lot of the parts in the cars are of unit type, such as the engine and suspension, something Volvo supports.

“We are going to support and follow our development in the series carefully due to the fact that other national championships are thinking about introducing similar regulations of unit type. The program in BTCS is going to get us an understanding of what this type of regulations can mean for Volvo,” said Derek Crabb, Volvo Motorsport Director.
