Tander takes pole as series leader Whincup struggles

Garth Tander has taken pole position for the first race at Ipswich, whilst Jamie Whincup fails to break into the top 10.

The Holden Racing Team driver set a 1:09.853 to take pole position, and will start alongside Jim Beam Racing’s James Courtney – who couldn’t repeat his 1:09.580 from the earlier qualifying session in the shootout, but will certainly be one to watch out for with the car working well this weekend.

Despite Tander’s Holden being at the front, Ford feature prominently as four of the marques Falcon FG cars will line-up between Garth at the first race, with Courtney starting ahead of Shane van Gisbergen, Mark Winterbottom and team mate Steven Johnson.

With Jamie Whincup struggling, and only qualifying 12th, some other drivers put in some surprise results – with Jason Bright’s Trading Post Racing Commodore starting ninth, and Dean Fiore’s Triple F car tenth.
