BMW wins race one at Dijon Prenois

BMW’s Steve Vanbellingen & Ruben Maes win the first BTCS race at Dijon Prenois, from the Wauters’ Kia Pro_Cee’d & the new Volvo S60.

At the start, the series points leading Renault Megane of Frederic Bouvy overtook the second place starting Volvo S60 of Vincent Radermecker on the rolling start, which earned Bouvy a drive through penalty.

Meanwhile, Jerome Thiry & Werner Moonens Kia Pro_Cee’d failed to take advantage of it’s pole position – and would suffer further in the race with a misfire, and Steve Vanbellingen assumed a comfortable lead in his BMW M3.

The Volvo was running in second early on, but on lap four Radermecker identified that he had a transmission problem, and eventually on lap 25 succumbed to the Kia Pro_Cee’d of Philip Steveny.

After the driver change, the fourth placed Pro_Cee’d was the car on a charge, now at the hands of Koen Wauters. First passing Eric van de Poele for third, then the Kia of team mate Iain Dockerill, who had taken over from Steveny on lap 43 – with van de Poele also passing the Englishman on lap 48.

Series leader Frederic Bouvy’s Renault would finish fifth.
