Compass 360 Racing & Durabond Racing join forces
Compass 360 Racing and Durabound Racing will join forces and field a three car squad of Honda Civic Si’s in this year’s Canadian championship.
Anthony Rapone, who drove for the Durabond Racing team last year will return in the #72 Civic Si, with the team running as Durabond/Compass360 Racing, with C360R’s Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge driver Andrew Danyliw joining the team in #73.
Team owner Karl Thomson will himself take the wheel of the third Civic, numbered 71, and the team’s objective will be the Touring Car Class championship in this year’s Castrol Canadian Touring Car Championship.
Team owner Karl Thomson said of the announcement:
“We’ve been really successful since moving into Grand-Am’s Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge six years ago, winning championships for Honda in 2007 and 2009. I’m really looking forward to getting back to our roots and enjoying some of the close racing the Canadian series offers.”
Rapone finished second in the 2009 championship in class, and will be hoping to go one further this year.
Toronto based Compass 360 Racing, who won last year’s Koni Sportscar Challenge series with the Civic, ran a single Acura TSX last year in Canada in the Super Touring Class, but the team’s familiarity with the Civic will benefit the team greatly as it now attempts to win the Touring class title.
