Lombardi won’t defend CCTCC title

Lombardi Racing won’t be returning to the Canadian Touring Car Championship to defend their two consecutive titles this year, instead switching to the new Super Production Challenge series.

Nick Wittmer has won the last two CCTCC titles in the series top tier Super Touring category, but will now be looking to challenge for the ‘SPC’ title in the championship’s inaugural season, sharing the #01 Civic Si-R with younger brother Karl, the third racing driver of the Wittmer clan after Nick and Kuno.

The team will run four cars; three Civics and one Integra Type-R in the new championship, with Benjamin DiStaulo staying on as a driver for the team, after being appointed the team’s manager in December.

The new Super Production Challenge series starts on the 28th-29th May at a venue to still be confirmed, just one week after the opening round of the Canadian Touring Car Championship at Mosport along with the American Pirelli World Challenge.
