HRT to regroup on Sunday after team mates collide

The Holden Racing Team will want to forget about the first race, after Tander takes out team mate Davison at Winton.

Struggling for grip at the end of the race, Will Davison in the #22 HRT Holden Commodore was trying to keep in touch with the top ten, but after going wide to the outside of the track as Dick Johnson Racing’s Jonathon Webb put on a great passing move on the final lap, team mate Garth Tander, recovering from a bad pitstop divebombed down the inside and took out his unfortunate team mate.

The two Holden’s span around as the bulk of the field passed them, they went on to recover to the finish, with Tander classified 11th and Davison 22nd, before pulling to the side with a broken steering arm.

“It’s certainly not the result that HRT had hoped for but we’re not going to change that now by yelling and screaming and carrying on. We’ll put it behind us and try again tomorrow” said Garth.

Will Davison, currently having a challenging year, languishing in 15th in the points said:

“Got collected by Garth, which was obviously not ideal…everyone was in a lot of trouble with tyres and we were all just hanging on for grim death.”

“I had a difficult race but I was actually soldiering forward pretty well in those last few laps and I had just got through Garth.

“I didn’t see him, turned in and felt a big whack.”
