Giovanardi happy with top ten result

Fabrizio Giovanardi & Karl Reindler took the Britek Holden Commodore to its first top ten finish in the first Gold Coast 600 race, and the European touring car star was delighted with the result.

Giovanardi started 23rd, after Reindler qualified the car, and Giovanardi did a good job to avoid the SBR Falcon of David Brabham, which stalled right in front of him at the start, and found himself 11th after the first lap carnage.

“Honestly, I don’t feel 100% in the car, I just raced avoiding every big mistake and just keep good pace without overtaking or being overtaken” said Giovanardi to TouringCarTimes.

“But it’s pretty good, at the end of day, we finish ninth, and we finished! Many other cars didn’t finish.”

On the start, Giovanardi reflected on how he was able to get through the dramatic incident with a spinning Villeneuve which took Will Power & Will Davison out of the race.

“It was a bit strange for me as I had a really good start, but the two cars in front of me stalled, so I had to release the throttle and was slowing down to avoid the car and then I was squeezed by another one…so I lost time, but had the time to see the accident in front and could see the big hole to the left”
