Lowndes on top after Friday practice

TeamVodafone’s Craig Lowndes was fastest on the Friday practice session at Symmons Plains ahead of FPR’s Steven Richards, with Tander third.

Lowndes, who sits third in the championship and is the highest scoring driver over the last five races, said:
“We made some changes to the car and the car reacted really well, so right at the end we put on some new tyres to see what we could do considering today (Friday) is probably going to be the best day for weather over the weekend.”

Steven Richards, who hasn’t secured a drive for next season yet, was second fastest in the No.6 FPR Falcon, continuing his recent run of good form.

Garth Tander was third in a brand new Walkinshaw Performance built Holden Commodore VE, after crashing out in the second race at Surfers Paradise three weeks ago.

Championship leader James Courtney was just outside the top 10 in 11th place, 0.428 down on Lowndes’ best time.
