Courtney on top in Sandown practice
James Courtney posted the fastest lap in the practice session ahead of this weekend’s Norton 360 Sandown Challenge. Mark Winterbottom made it a Ford 1-2, trailing his manufacturer colleague with just one tenth of a second.
“The track is quite slippery because we are one and a half seconds off the track record, so it’s obviously not in good shape… I was complaining about what the car was doing but I am in P2,” Winterbottom said.
Best Holden-driver was Craig Lowndes in third with the time 1:11.0615 ahead of Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen.
Janathon Webb was sixth fastest ahead of Fabial Coulthard and Paul Dumbrell. Steven Johnson and Will Davidson rounded off top ten.
Jason Bright got in to trouble during the practice session when his throttle stuck open.
“It got stuck at full throttle… it was just lucky it turned sideways when it went off the track. It wasn’t as big a hit as I was expecting. When I went off the track I thought ‘this is going to be a very big hit’ but it wasn’t as big as I expected and looking at the damage it wasn’t as big as what it could have been,” said Bright.
