Whincup on pole at Sandown

Jamie Whincup has taken pole position in the qualifying shootout at Sandown ahead of Paul Dumbrell and Mark Winterbottom.

Whincup set the best time of 1:10.814 on his run, almost two-tenths of a second faster than Dumbrell in the Bottle-O Racing Ford Falcon.

Mark Winterbottom was third in the Ford Performance Racing Falcon.

Championship leader James Courtney will start sixth in the Jim Beam Racing car, behind both of the HRT Commodore’s, with Will Davison outqualying team-mate Garth Tander.

Whincup’s team-mate Craig Lowndes, stuggled in qualifying and didn’t make the shooutout, and will start 12th.
