HRT confirms Davison departure

Holden Racing Team have confirmed Will Davison will leave the team at the end of the season, with next week’s race in Sydney being his last for the team.

Will Davison joined HRT from Dick Johnson Racing in 2009, and although he had a strong first season with the Walkinshaw Performance run squad, finishing second in the championship, a disastrous sophomore season with the team currently finds him lying in 21st place in the standings with one round remaining.

HRT confirm that Davison was offered a contract extension to stay with the team, but that Davison has decided to move on elsewhere.

HRT Managing Director Craig Wilson said:
“Since joining us, Will has been a highly valued member of the Toll HRT. He was offered a contract extension, but after what has been a difficult season for us all Will has elected to continue his V8 Supercar career elsewhere in 2011.”

HRT will announce Davison’s replacement in the coming weeks, though Speedcafe reports that current points leader James Courtney has just signed for the squad, and will join Garth Tander at the team in 2011.

Courtney has been linked with a number of possibilities in 2011. Although the 30-year old is signed to race for Jim Beam Racing next season, a highly publicised split between team owners Dick Johnson and Charlie Schwerkolt is believed to have opened up the opportunity for Courtney to look elsewhere whilst the team’s future is in doubt.

Most recently linked with a move to FPR in a fourth car with Schwerkolt’s Racing Entitlement Contract, Courtney now appears to be set to join the team which gave him his first taste of V8’s in 2005 at the endurance events.

Will Davison is hotly tipped to be heading to Ford Performance Racing in the No.6 car which will be vacated by Steven Richards at the end of the season, and will be backed by current Brad Jones Racing team sponsor Trading Post in 2011.
