Bright on top after Friday practice

Jason Bright was fastest in Friday practice at the Sydney Olympic Park street circuit for the final round of the 2011 V8 Supercars Championship.

The Brad Jones Racing driver put in a best lap of 1:28.176 in the final moments of the session on new tyres to go fastest ahead of Garry Rogers Motorsport driver Lee Holdsworth.

Bright, who lies 16th in the championship, can move up a number of places in the championship order this weekend, with next up from him team-mate Jason Richards, who is still recovering from surgery to remove a tumour, with everything reported to be going well.

Bright considers the Sydney Telstra 500 as unfinished business, with Jason finishing on the podium in last year’s race after leading then in his own Britek run Ford Falcon, before getting a drive through penalty for a confusion in the pit lane.

All three of the drivers who can win the championship this weekend were also in the top ten, with points leader James Courtney DJR Falcon fifth, TeamVodafone’s Jamie Whincup seventh and FPR’s Mark Winterbottom third fastest.
