Pole again for Lee Holdsworth
Lee Holdsworth has claimed pole position again at Homebush for the final race of the season, with title outsider Jamie Whincup in second.
Holdsworth set a 1:28.800 in the final moments of the session to clinch pole from Whincup, who has a slim possibility to overhaul points leader James Courtney to take his third title later today.
The short 20 minute qualifying session was stopped twice, once to clear a rogue tyre bundle, and second to recover the Brad Jones Racing Commodore of Andrew Jones, who will start 28th.
Points leader James Courtney qualified in 12th position. The Jim Beam Racing driver just needs to finish in the top 22 to secure his first V8 Supercars Championship title regardless of where rival Whincup finishes.
Mark Winterbottom will start third in the FPR Falcon, with Jason Bright, whose strategy calls yesterday moved him from 28th to second, will start fourth.
Saturday’s rookie winner Jonathon Webb qualified in 18th place in the Dick Johnson Racing Falcon.
