Tander takes pole for race 3 at Adelaide
Holden Racing Team driver Garth Tander has taken pole position for Saturday’s race at the Clipsal 500 ahead of Triple Eight’s Jamie Whincup in the top ten qualifying shootout.
The 2007 champion put in a lap just six-tenths of a second down on his earlier time in the qualifying session to secure top spot on the grid in his Holden Commodore VE II.
It was an all Holden front two rows, with Jamie Whincup securing second position. The Gold Coast resident was unable to beat Tander’s time, driving too cautiously in the first sector and unable to make the time up over the rest of the lap.
Paul Dumbrell in the Rod Nash Racing/Ford Performance Racing entry had set the benchmark in the qualifying session, but pushed too hard in the shootout and went off in the final corner and will therefore start tenth for today’s race.
Garry Rogers Motorsport’s Lee Holdsworth will start third, with Mark Winterbottom the top Ford driver in fifth just behind Rick Kelly.
