Win for Tander in Race 2 at Albert Park
Garth Tander won the second non-championship race at Albert Park, but Jason Richards was the star of the race finishing in second.
Jamie Whincup had started from pole but was given a 10-second stop and go penalty for a jump start which put the Triple Eight driver out of contention for the win. Whincup managed to battle back to finish in fourth place with team-mate Craig Lowndes finishing sixth after starting on the final row.
Alex Davison led the race early on in his Stone Brothers Racing Falcon, but was passed by Brad Jones Racing driver Jason Richards during the pit stop phase. Neither could fend off Holden Racing Team driver Garth Tander however, who had switched to the option tyre for the second part of the race, and assumed the lead on lap 17 to go on to win from an emotional Jason Richards.
Steven Johnson and reigning champion James Courtney both retired from the race on lap 1 in an incident with SBR’s Shane van Gisbergen, who had been dropped down the order after a post race penalty for contact with Craig Lowndes in race 1.
