Whincup extends championship lead with race 3 win
Jamie Whincup led from pole position for the third and final race at Barbagallo, keeping Jason Bright behind to take his second win of the weekend.
Whincup’s win means he extends his championship lead which is now 142 points over the second placed man, his team-mate Craig Lowndes.
“That win was a really special one,” said Whincup.
“Brighty had unbelievable pace on the soft tyres. My boys did a fantastic job in the pits, and I had nothing left there at the end.”
“Perth has been a bogey track for me for a long time…we had some success here a couple years ago but now I think this track is awesome!”
Tander rounded out the podium in the Holden Racing Team car and moves up to third place in the championship, with team-mate and reigning champion James Courtney finishing in fifth, seperated by the Triple Eight Commodore of Lowndes.
