Bright delighted after unstoppable overtaking run
Jason Bright has said he believes Brad Jones Racing can finish the year even stronger than the team has started, after claiming the team’s second ever victory at Winton.
The Albury-based team has now had two victories in consecutive meetings at Barbagallo and Winton, and Jason Bright, now fourth in the standings, believes there’s more to come.
“We’re still coming on strong and improving all the time,” said Bright.
“I think we can finish the year a lot stronger than we started but Jamie Whincup has got a big head-start and doesn’t finish outside the top two very often.”
“BJR is one of the smallest teams in pit lane and one of the closest. JR (Jason Richards) and I were improving all last year and working really well together. We get on really well and I was convinced we were going to be standing on the podium together a few times this year.”
“If he was racing he would definitely be up here with me. He’s the fiercest competitor I’ve ever worked with and he’s still very present at the team, even though he’s not there full time. We just want to see him better and back out there.”
Jason Richards, who is undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with adrenal cortical carcinoma (ACC) in November, was present with the team at Winton, testing in preparation for driving with the team at the endurance events later in the year.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Richards on Bright’s drive through the field.
“I’ve never seen a car so fast on old tyres; you just don’t see it.”
“It’s very emotional. We’re buddies and seeing him do so well…I’m very emotional these days anyway but that was beautiful.”
