The 12 Hours of Spa in pictures
We present this short gallery capturing some of the cars and highlights of the BTCS special event, the 12 Hours of Spa which took place at the weekend.
The headline photo shows Delahaye Racing’s top finishing Renault Mégane Trophy of Fréderic Bouvy, Christian Kelders and Geoffroy Horion.
The No.1 Mégane finished just 16 seconds behind the race winning Volvo S60 on track, but because Bouvy stayed in the car for too long, they picked up a five lap penalty. Such was the pace of the top two however, that Bouvy, Kelders and Horion were still classified in second place.
The race result, leading after three and six hours, and finishing second at the end mean Bouvy and Kelders have now taken the championship lead for the first time this year.
Didier De Radigues, Philippe Steveny and Christian Lefort were classified in third place in the lone Kia Pro_Cee’d. The former championship leaders have now slipped to second in the championship standings after Spa.
The No.5 Mégane of Alexandre Viron, Laurent Richard & Pierre-Etienne Bordet finished fourth overall. The No.25 MTE Racing Solution F of Alexis van de Poele, Pascal Nelissen Grade & Vincent Vandenabeele finished ninth and won the Silhouette 2 (S2) class.
The ex-WTCC specification SEAT (with heavily uprated engine) of Astur Car was a favourite contender in the T3 class, but problems for the team meant the car fought on to be the last classified car, 94 laps down on the race winning Volvo.
The T3 class win therefore went to Ruben Maes, Steve Vanbellingen and Eric Qvick in the BMW M3.
The T4 class victory went to Mal Rose and Peter Leemhuis in the Mal Rose Racing-run Holden Commodore. A rare site to be seen in Belgium.
A good result for the one-off entry of Racing Club Partners in the S1 class with their Audi A4. The team finished sixth overall and fifth in class with drivers Ronnie Dubois, Nathalie Maillet & Nicolas De Keijser.
The W Racing Team Volkswagen Scirocco of Koen Wauters, Laurens Vanthoor and Ronnie Latinne ran strongly in the T3 class, before retiring shortly over half distance.
The SEAT Supercopa (T3S) class was won by the two-driver pairing of Nicolas Lamy and Nicolas Leonard. The Allure Team SEAT finishing just 17 laps down on the race winner and seventh overall.
The Nero Competition-run Volvo S60 of Vincent Radermecker, Eric van de Poele and Nico Verdonck sporting the team’s new livery took a great victory at the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit, finishing as always with the 12 Hours of Spa, in the dead of night.
