Tony Kanaan joins Gold Coast 600 line-up
2004 IndyCar series champion Tony Kanaan is the latest driver to be confirmed to be taking part in the second Gold Coast 600 in October, racing with Jason Bargwanna at Brad Jones Racing.
Kanaan is also the third Brazilian driver to be set to take part after Helio Castroneves and Augusto Farfus have already been confirmed to race for SBR and GRM respectively.
27 out of 28 international competitors have now confirmed, with just who will partner Jonathon Webb at the Tekno Autosports team to announced. Last year Webb was joined by Sebastien Bourdais, but the four-time Champcar series champion has been snapped up by Triple Eight Race Engineering for this year’s event where he’ll partner Craig Lowndes.
“I cannot wait to get back down to the Gold Coast,” said Kanaan.
“It has always been one of my favourite events and places in the world. This time we head back in a different type of car, but the focus will be the same with championship points up for grabs for Jason (Bargwanna) and the Brad Jones Racing team.”
“Obviously there are a few IndyCar drivers coming down for the event again this year and there will be a bit of pride on the line.”
