Pole position again for Whincup and Bourdais

Jamie Whincup and Sébastien Bourdais have secured pole position for the second race at the Gold Coast 600, with Tander and Briscoe also on the front row.

Whincup’s best time was the quickest seen all weekend, and the first time anyone has been under 1:11. Whincup pipped Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander in the last few moments, with Ford Performance Racing were competitive again, locking out row two.

Craig Lowndes, who had a disastrous Saturday, qualified in fifth place just ahead of Paul Morris Motorsport driver Steve Owen. Yesterday’s fourth place finisher and some-time race leader James Moffat qualified the No.18 Dick Johnson Racing Ford Falcon in ninth place.

Notable strugglers include reigning Champion James Courtney, who qualified the No.1 HRT Commodore in 23rd place.

The race starts at 13:40 local time.
