Rick Kelly takes pole position at Sandown

Rick Kelly lead the way in a wet qualifying session to claim his second pole position of the season ahead of Championship leader Jamie Whincup, whilst a struggling Craig Lowndes ended up 27th.

The Kelly Racing driver traded times with the Triple Eight Holden of Whincup throughout the 20 minute qualifying session, but it was Rick Kelly who emerged on top, claiming pole position with a time of 1:19.900.

Whincup was just over two-tenths of a second adrift, with Will Davison the top placed Ford driver in third in the Ford Performance Racing Falcon.

Craig Lowndes, the only other drover in the title hunt struggled for grip througout the session and ended up on the penultimate spot on the grid, 2.5 seconds down on Kelly.

The first race of the weekend starts at 16:15 local time.
