Craig Lowndes claims pole for V8 Supercars premiere

Craig Lowndes claimed the first V8 Supercars pole position of 2012, beating Garth Tander with just 0.017 seconds in the Top 10 Shootout for the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

Lowndes and Tander secured a 1-2 for Holden with Will Davidson as the best Ford Falcon driver in third position.

Jonathon Webb and Jamie Whincup claimed positions four and five on the grid, ahead of three Ford Falcons. Tim Slade claimed sixth, Mark Winterbottom, who was fastest in qualifying, in seventh and David Reynolds in eighth.

Fabian Coulthard and Shane van Gisbergen rounded off the top 10 shootout grid.

V8 Supercars newcomer and former Audi DTM driver Alexandre Prémat claimed position 25 in qualifying.
