Van Gisbergen wins to complete perfect weekend for Ford

Shane Van Gisbergen won the fourth and final race of the non-championship V8 Supercars round at Albert Park, with Winterbottom winning the first three Ford won every race and Winterbottom the round.

Mark Winterbottom had a bad start in his Ford Performance Racing Ford Falcon and was out of the fight at the front early on. Winterbottom’s team-mate Will Davison lead the first nine laps but soon after he pitted he was passed by Holden Racing Team driver Garth Tander, who looked on target to take the win and spoil Ford’s run of results, but as his tyres faded on lap 12 he was passed by New Zealander Shane Van Gisbergen.

Fabian Coulthard in the Brad Jones Racing Holden kept pace with Tander throughout the race and completed the podium, with Will Davison slotting into fourth and Mark Winterbottom finishing fifth.

Fifth was enough for Winterbottom with his three wins already secured to take the round win and the $100,000 prize money.

Reigning champion Jamie Whincup retired on lap six with a brake problem.

The next race is the second official round of the Championship at Symmons Plains, Tasmania on March 30th-April 1st.
