DJR announces Endurance and Gold Coast drivers
Dick Johnson Racing (DJR) has announced their Endurance and Gold Coast co-drivers for the 2012 season.
“With a team the size ours, it was important we found drivers who were of an exceptional standard but who also fitted with our team dynamic. They need to hit the ground running and fit in quickly in October and the group we have found, we believe, due to their experience and professionalism, will be excellent additions to the DJR team,” said Dick Johnson, Owner and TEam Principal of DJR.
Steve Johnson in the #17 car is going to pair up with Allan Simonsen for the Bathurst 1000 and Sandown 500 while Max Papis will take over for the Gold Coast 600. Papis has driven Formula One, in 1995, but made his breakthrough in the USA with CART.
Dean Fiore in the #12 car is going to drive together with Matt Halliday for Bathurst and Sandown races, with Gianni Morbidelli joining once again for the Gold Coast event. Morbidelli races for Audi Sport Italia in the 2012 Superstars International Series and has previously raced in Formula One.
The #18 car with James Moffatt behind the wheel will get company from Alex Davison for the endurance races with Peter Kox taking over the co-driver position for the Gold Coast. Kox currently takes part in the FIA GT1 World Championship and has previously raced a lot of touring cars, most notably taking the European Superproduction Championship title in 2001 and finishing second in the STW 1995 for BMW.
Final DJR car, #19 – Steve Owen, will be joined by Paul Morris for the endurance races and Boris Said for the Gold Coast race. Said has experience from NASCAR and endurance GT racing, taking the Nürburgring 24 Hours win in 2005.
